+ started on my rewrite of the callsign server at Buffalo.  And I've
+ finally got a design that I'm happy with.  The new searching
+ capabilities are going to be *much* improved over the current system.
+ I'll be getting rid of the bugs in the current telnet system and making
+ it available to more people.  Also coming is a WWW front-end for web
+ surfers.  Time to step into the 90s.

+ Part of the rewrite is an entire reorganization of the database look-up
+ system.  The old system was very specific to the FCC database format
+ because that's all that was available when it was written (yes, the
+ server is very, very old).  But now there are a number of databases
+ floating around the net for different countries and I am rewriting the
+ system to be more flexible and to accommodate a variety of formats and
+ search types.
+
+ In doing so, I'll have the ability to add data for many more countries.
+ That is, of course, if I have the data.  In order to do this I need
+ help.  I need to get in touch with all people that have access to
+ databases from countries other than the US.  The more up-to-date these
+ databases are, the better. If you have access to a database and would be
+ willing to donate a copy to the callsign server for everyone to use,
+ please contact me.  A lot of people would genuinely appreciate it.
+
+ The callsign server has become remarkably popular on the net and this
+ has happened because the community has contributed so much to it over
+ the many years it's been running.  I have heard stories of reunions with
+ old classmates, stories of silent-keys that have been remembered, and
+ stories from blind hams doing simple look-ups of other hams, all
+ possible because of the server.  Congratulations to the community for
+ making this system so useful.

+ I am into public service, and also ARES/RACES.  I am the Emergency
+ Coordinator for both organizations in Sonoma Valley, Sonoma county, San
+ Francisco Section.
+
+ We do ARES and RACES as one program here, and actually lean more towards
+ RACES because the government entities are so supportive.
+
+ I like to encourage newer hams to participate in the events for which I
+ coordinate the communications.  It's ideal training for emergency
+ services, and it's fun, too.  Codeless Technicians who can't participate
+ on most HF NTS traffic nets have a real role to play here, as we
+ generally use VHF and UHF, and these amateurs are instrumental with
+ their enthusiasm in filling the rosters.
+
+ It's also sometimes a good initiator for those new hams who are
+ self-conscious talking with other, experienced hams one-on-one, but are
+ OK talking formally to a net control station.  Similarly, I try to
+ encourage those new hams who became hams so they could talk to their ham
+ spouses, and all you ever hear them do is talk to their spouses and to
+ no-one else.  While that's perfectly OK in and of itself, public service
+ is a good way to break out of that mold and get more fun from radio
+ while really helping out.

+ The ARRL Technical Information Service (TIS) is a valuable membership
+ benefit that helps hams find answers to difficult technical questions.
+
+ The answer to a ham's most common technical questions can be found in
+ one of the many books about Amateur Radio.  Folks who call or write to
+ ARRL TIS staff are often referred to one of these books or to a past
+ magazine article.
+
+ However, most hams find that the fastest way to get the answer is to do
+ their own research.  Publication catalogs often talk about what kinds of
+ information are available in different books.  A few good books will
+ answer the vast majority of questions as well as enhance a ham's
+ knowledge and enjoyment of this fascinating hobby.
+
+ Magazines are also a superb technical reference.  An annual index of
+ articles appears in the December issue of QST and other magazines.
+ These indexes will usually have an article or two (or six) about a
+ particular topic.  If an older QST or QEX article is not available
+ locally, the ARRL Technical Department Secretary can provide a copy for
+ a small fee.  Back issues are also available from the QST Circulation
+ Department.

+ The ARRL Technical Information Service is a valuable source of
+ information and research for questions that cannot be answered by other
+ means.  ARRL TIS has information packages and bibliographies that are
+ available on request to answer most technical questions.
+
+ For those who want to know if something has been previously published on
+ a particular subject, TIS can also assist with research to locate this
+ information.  TIS also helps locate companies that sell hard to find
+ parts or supplies used in our hobby.
+
+ Many amateur radio informational documents are also available from the
+ ARRL Email Information Server (or Info-Server for short).  To find out
+ how to use the Info-Server, send E-mail to [e-mail] with any
